BRIEF TITLE: 

FLW - Exhibition of the life and works of Frank Lloyd Wright

THE BRIEF:

Create promotional material for an exhibition based on the life and works of famous american architect Frank Lloyd Wright

CONCEPT/PROPOSITION:

Focussing on the architecture and its structure, the design should employ the ethos of Frank Lloyd Wright's design beliefs.

BACKGROUND:

Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the most famous American architects of all time. His working career was often over shadowed by his public turbulent personal life. The exhibition is being held at one of the finest examples of his work the Guggenheim museum. 

TARGET AUDIENCE:

PRIMARY - Tourists/visitors
SECONDARY - Professionals/students
OTHER - People of the era that Frank Lloyd Wright practiced architecture

TONE OF VOICE:

Informative and educational yet not exclusively so 

CONSIDERATIONS:

How the audience will interact with the exhibition.
How to target audience with out being exclusive.
How will the material produced be viewed and where?

WEB PROPOSAL




The web home page would include a continuos scroll slide of images from the exhibition, each image would be linked and take the user to a page about it. This improves user experience the whole web design has been designed with a 3 click maximum to navigate around the web page.


This is a page about Falling Water building, The page has relevant information about the building.


The page is responsive in a number of ways. Firstly the image is like that on the home page and has buttons allowing the user to click through the images of the Falling Water building quickly The text also scrolls to provide lots of information in a small amour of space.

QR CODE SCANNER:




The QR code scanner would be a quick and easy way for the audience to get information on the relevant art work in the exhibition. The scanner would take the user to the app store where they could download the app. Then everytime the audience wanted to find out more information on the exhibits they could scan the qr code provided that would take them to an information page on the app about that piece of work.

Over all I am really happy with the end product, the only issue was on the quotes pages, I had tightened the press too hard in the binding stage. As a result the ink had transferred to the facing page. Due to time constraints I didn't have time to reprint and rebind the book. I think this compromises the end finish of the book slightly and had I utilised my time more efficiently I would have definitely reprinted the book. I also had trouble matching the colour of the book to the packaging. All in all I am pleased with the products and think they are well suited to the aesthetic and concept that i had in mind.

The brand guidelines is a hot dog publication with a poster on the reverse side, i perforated the fold likes of the book so it was more precise and clean when folded up.

ART WORK PREPARATION:




First I created the outlines of the design, this has to be done for the laser cutter to be able to read the design.



As it is a vinyl transfer the text needs to be mirrored I did this on Illustrator so the text reads backwards, when the vinyl is transferred it will read the right way up.


VINYL CUTTING:




Unfortunately the vinyl cutter hadn't been set properly so i had to go over the engraved lines with a scalpel to make sure they were cut all the way through before pealing off the excess vinyl. This proved difficult as it was hard to see where the lines were.

PROJECT AND NOTE BOOK


I created 2 A5 sized books to be sold as merchandise at the exhibition, one is a general note book and the other is a project pad. They are bound using a 2 part metal clip. This binding technique has been used as it is easy to reproduce and gives a modernist theme to the books.

Note pad: The note pad has plain white paper for the user to jot and doodle in to

Project pad: The project pad has a range of different stocks in. This pad is to be marketed at the professionals and students at the exhibition. The three types of stock have been specially picked. The tracing paper and gridded paper allow Architects to draw plans and sketches on in a precise and professional manner. The white paper has also been added for general notes and text about the projects with in the book.

After the crit and receiving feedback on my posters it became clear that they lacked the relevant information. To make the posters more functional and informative i added information to them in the same format as the postcards.

POSTCARD DESIGN

As the concept of the ticket providing a post card didn't work i thought it would be valuable to produce a range of postcards that would be for sale as merchandise of the exhibition. I followed the same design structure in place with the tickets and posters.

Size: A6




I added the details of the exhibition with the feature of the QR code that would take the audience to the online presence. If the customer was to send this postcard to someone else the bar code serves a great purpose to spread awareness and promotion of the exhibition.


I also added the caption to the right hand side of the postcard in order to tell the viewer about what the imagery depicted. On reflection I then decided that this would be a great feature to add to the poster design as well.


I also created a standard layout for the back of the post card.
